For children over 12yrs and adults weapons based training features as an essential part of your martial arts training. By mastering a weapon you not only preserve the knowledge of that art, but by knowing how to use it, you can better defend against it.
Traditional Oriental Weapons
The British Fudoshin Association teaches 12 traditional oriental weapons. Each weapon has its own syllabus and you can achieve grades from mauve to black in each weapon:
- Katana
- Wakizashi
- Tanto (knife)
- Naginata (spear)
- Bo (6ft stick)
- Jo (4ft stick)
- Tanjo aka Tanbo (2ft stick)
- Yawara bo
- Sai
- Kama
- Tonfa
- Nunchaku
Improvised weapons

The use of improvised weapons is taught as part of the Jujitsu syllabus and includes but not limited to:
- Belt
- Pen or pencil
- Keys
- Mobile phone
- Folder
- Carrier bag
- Newspaper
- Rope
In fact after learning basic principles any object to hand can easily be utilised in self-defence.
