Basic Handling

Grips
- Normal grip – hold near handle
- Short grip – hold midway up towards blade, enables quick short movements
- Reverse grip – head of kama is down
Basic moves
- Wide outside circle (forehand)
- Wide inside circle (Cross strike)
- Outside wrist flip (forehand but just using the wrist)
- Inside wrist flip (back hand but just using the wrist)
- Inside reverse wrist flip (backhand just using the wrist
- Outside reverse wrist flip (round house just using the wrist)
Striking applications and targets
Single Kama (left and right)
Normal grip
- Strike with point directly into target (face)
- Using circular motion strike point into target (carotid neck) (forehand)
- Inside horizontal circular motion point into other side of target (carotid, neck) (backhand)
- inside horizontal circular motion point into lower level target (chest) (backhand)
- Upper cut swing hit target with blade (neck under the chin with blade)
- Circular outside motion from above striking down into the target cutting with the blade of the kama (back of neck with blade) and pull down
- Hooking motion from inside lower level (hook behind knee)
- Outside hooking motion lower level (hook behind knee)
- Strike with the back of the kama (mine) using thrusting motion under chin
Reverse grip
- Reverse grip uppercut under the chin, point into chin
- Reverse grip, circular motion from outside (roundhouse) strike neck/ head with point
- Reverse grip, circular motion from inside (backhand) strike neck/ head with point
- Reverse grip, butt strike to chin
- Reverse grip butt strike to temple from outside
- Reverse grip butt strike to temples from inside
- Reverse grip butt strike to solar plexus
Striking applications and targets Double Kama
Double Kama
- Strike downwards with both kama (carotids)
- Strike with the points and slice from the sides (double roundhouse) at the neck
- Strike and slice the neck with both kama (double cross strike)
- Strike with the points from the sides into the mid-section (ribs)
- Mountain storm – kama in reverse grip, strike with butt
- Double butt strike to temples
Blocking
- Inside block (forehand) (with spine of Kama)
- Outside block (back hand) (with spine of Kama)
- Reverse grip block (with spine of Kama)
- Double wedge block (with spine of Kama)
- Outside handle block and cut into wooden weapon
- Block with back of blade (mine) , rotate and cut
- Cross block high
- Cross block side
- Cross block low
Strikes

Jodan and chudan
Single Kama
- Overhead single strike – step forward into zen, strike downwards, then step and strike with other side stepping into zen
- Overhead alternating double strike – shuffle forward on same foot left and right strikes with the same leg leading, one to jodan and one to chudan
- Butt strike (kama in reverse grip) – step forward into zen and strike with butt, step forward with other foot and strike.
- Roundhouse- step forward into zen wide outside (roundhouse/ forehand) strike, step forward with other foot and wide outside (roundhouse/ forehand) with other hand
- Cross strike – step forward into zen cross strike, step forward with other foot and cross strike with other hand
- Circular wrist flip and snap downwards – rotate wrist circular motion and snap downwards strike as step into zen, repeat other side
- Reverse grip rising uppercut – forward into zen, reverse grip, shaft along elbow, rising uppercut with elbow to jaw
- Reverse grip forehand strike – forward into zen, reverse grip forehand strike, repeat other side
- Reverse grip elbow strike – forward into zen, reverse grip elbow strike, repeat other side
- Reverse grip back hand strike – forward into zen, reverse grip backhand strike, repeat other side
- Strike with mine – forward into zen, strike with back of blade, repeat other side
- Butt strike, reverse grip forehand strike (same hand) – into zen, repeat both sides
- Butt strike, reverse grip backhand strike (same hand)- into zen repeat both sides
Double Kama
- Double circular, wrist flip and snap downwards – Cat’s paw, supinate both wrists, as raise arms, snap down into double strike with point, switch legs and repeat
- Double cross cut neck – cats paw, switch legs and repeat
- Double roundhouse neck – cats paw, switch legs and repeat
- Double roundhouse ribs – cats paw, switch legs and repeat
- Mountain storm – zen, repeat other side
- Double strike temples – zen, repeat other side
- Reverse grip jabbing butt strike, reverse grip forehand strike other hand – zen, repeat other side
Attacking combinations

- Ankle kick, downward neck, same hand cross strike, spinning cross strike with other hand
- Front kick, jab with mine to throat, downward to face, spinning back kick, opposite hand cross strike
- Reverse Grip Jabbing Butt strike to face, reverse grip elbow strike to face, change grip cross strike
- Rising strike groin, downwards neck
- Cross, circular combination
- Spiral cut
- Kick to knee, cross strike, spinning cross hand strike with other hand
- Front Kick, double wrist flick down
- Front Kick, double roundhouse
- Front Kick, double cross strike
- Front kick, double butt strike temples (reverse grip), reverse grip elbow strike to head
- Front kick, double hook behind head, drive knee into face
- (Reverse grip) Jabbing Butt strike to face, reverse grip elbow strike to face, other hand round house (normal grip)
- (Reverse grip) Jabbing Butt strike to face, reverse grip elbow strike to face, same hand change grip cross strike(normal grip)
- (Reverse grip) jabbing butt strike, reverse grip rising elbow strike under chin, change grip downwards to carotid (all same hand)
